Card #66 – ”Challenge Convention” from the Creative Whack Pack
Available on the iOS App Store and as a physical deck of cards

A time-honored proverb says: “A chain is no stronger than its weakest link.”
Be a contrarian and say: “Weak links are great! Many systems have weak links designed right into them. They’re called ‘fuses’. When a system gets overloaded, the fuse blows and saves the rest of the system. After all, which part do you want to break: the $500,000 one or the $5 one?”
Another adage proclaims: “If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well.” A different perspective would argue: “If a thing is worth doing, it’s okay to do it poorly. Otherwise, you’ll never give yourself permission to be a beginner at a new activity. If you always have to do it well, then you’ll prevent yourself from trying new things.”
And finally, “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” A contrary view: “Everybody needs a dream. Without the ‘two in the bush’ mentality, what would happen to risk taking?”
