Card #89 – ”Admire and Let Go”

Card #89 – ”Admire and Let Go” from the Creative Whack Pack

Available on the iOS App Store and as a physical deck of cards

I have had the privilege of watching Tibetan Buddhist monks create colored sand mandalas.

These “paintings” are made by placing grains of colored sand to form geometrical patterns on an area the size of a card table. The mandala typically takes several days to complete.

When the monks are finished, they admire the beauty for a few moments, and say a few prayers over it.

Then the head monk scrapes the colored sand into a pile and pours it into a silk bag. He then empties the bag into a nearby stream. This symbolizes the ephemeral nature of any creation.

Immerse yourself in the creative process, and then allow yourself some distance from what you have created.
